Farrer replies to Tolkien,Carpenter #112: Letter from J.R.R. Tolkien to Katharine Farrer • 30 November 1947 (#140)[1] again in runes and says that she would welcome a key to the Dwarvish alphabet. This was written on a postcard that accompanied another letter, which we do not currently have details on. Wayne G. Hammond and Christina Scull do note however that Farrer's copy of The Hobbit was included for Tolkien to sign.

The letter and postcard are found among the Tolkien Papers at the Bodleian Library.

We note our thanks to Christine McIllwaine for further details on this letter.
MS. Tolkien 21, fol. 55 (letter), and fol. 56 (runic postcard)
J.R.R. Tolkien: Life and Legend, p. 50 (item 114 reproduces Farrer's postcard, note that the letter is wrongly said to be from 1937. This is of course not possible given that Tolkien wrote to Farrer using his Manor Road headed paper, which the Tolkien's did not move into until March 1947)
