Tolkien is elected a Fellow of Merton College and writes to Salt, Bursar of Pembroke College on that matter. He expresses gratitude to Salt for his kindness. Tolkien will remain as a member of the college and an honorary member of the Senior Common Room, which he is very pleased about.
