A staff member from GA&U's translations department write to Tolkien. The Swedish publisher who has agreed to publish The Hobbit have asked if Tolkien would mind some of his illustrations being replaced by a well-known painter from Sweden.
In an undated postcard Letter from J.R.R. Tolkien to George Allen & Unwin [translation dept.] • c. 17 May - June 1947 (#2540)[1] Tolkien will reply that he does not mind, except in the matter of the maps which he thinks will look better if unchanged.
