Writing to Tolkien, Sir Stanley Unwin sets out how he would like the two men to address each other. Suggesting 'Tolkien' and 'Unwin'. In reply, Tolkien agrees with this suggestion. See Carpenter's Letter #109 (J.R.R. Tolkien to Stanley Unwin, 31 July 1947).
Included with the letter is Rayner Unwin's report on Book 1 of The Lord of the Rings and he has asked if the second part can be arranged for him to read upon his return from a trip to Switzerland. He will return around 23 August.
Unwin remarks that the typescript of Book 1 will be returned by registered post.
