Tolkien sends his publisher a copy of ‘A Long-expected Party’, the first chapter of The Lord of the Rings. He also encloses errata for The Hobbit found by a reader, and his son Christopher.

In the revised 2023 edition of Letters, a single sentence is restored, with Tolkien confirming that he has received the four copies of the Hobbit which he requested in Carpenter #21: Letter from J.R.R. Tolkien to Allen & Unwin Ltd. • 1 February 1938 (#24).
