Stanley Unwin replies to Carpenter's Letter #124 (J.R.R. Tolkien to Stanley Unwin, 24 February 1950). He says that publishing The Silmarillion and The Lord of the Rings together would be very difficult. He asks if the work could be split into three or four volumes.
He gives Tolkien an update on Farmer Giles of Ham. It has sold over 2,000 copies so far,The first printing was 5,000 copies.[1] below what was hoped.
