TCG Letter #2812

From
Susan Dagnall
To
Stanley Unwin
Date
1 November 1950
Type
Unknown
Transcript
Unknown
'S', likely Susan Dagnall writes to Stanley Unwin after she had visited Elaine Griffiths in Oxford. She remarks about reading Tolkien's edition of Exodus, declaring it to be "brilliant" and says that his drawers are "full of such texts". She believes that for the sake of scholarship, and students, these texts must be published.
Notes
Five days later, Stanley Unwin wrote to Tolkien, see Letter from Stanley Unwin to J.R.R. Tolkien • 6 November 1950 (#2814). It is not unreasonable to believe that Dagnall might also have mentioned Sir Gawain in this letter. In Letter from J.R.R. Tolkien to Stanley Unwin • 13 November 1950 (#2821) it becomes clear that Stanley Unwin's letter is connected to the earlier one from Susan Dagnall.[1]
