Mrs Rachael Feichtmeir, a fan of Tolkien's books, writes to him about his process of writing the books.
Notes
We do not know the contents but from Tolkien's reply we see that Tolkien responded by saying that he "wrote or sketched" important chapters before naturally arriving at them, but that proved unhelpful. He also remarks that he worked to a map.
