Lanier sent Tolkien a copy of Dune by Frank Herbert for which Tolkien ended up owing a bill for the postage. Tolkien was unhappy that he was also charged £1 more than the total of the bill as the total was miscalculated. Mention of dealing with the 'Ace Books' piracy of The Lord of the Rings.
