I have had a bit of success with UK
Hobbits recently

Every impression from the 3rd Printing of 1942 to the 24th (10th Impression of the 3rd Edition in 1975), apart from one
I only collect Hobbits with Dust-Jackets and they have to be not priced clipped, hence why no 1st or 2nd Printings, a small number of editions (three) need to be replaced because they do not fit my criteria.

You're right. I don't think there's a perfect Puffin Hobbit out there (unless anyone can show otherwise!). So far as Tom Bombadil is concerned, I bought the 1972 edition in 1972, in fact. Since then I've acquired two first impressions as well.

Well, the cover looks fantastic. Is the spine as good? (That's always been the problem for me, the edges of the spine seem to wear so quickly and leave lines of white...)

Looks very good, better than my best Puffin I'd say (I'll post a picture soon). Thanks for your comments Morgan, here's some photos of my main wall.
The main wall of the room mainly contains copies of The Lord of the Rings, Histories of Middle-earth and books on Tolkien. The first three photos give an overview, followed by a more detailed look at LOTR UK first editions and HoME.

Two copies of the HoME-matching unfinished tales is just greedy! :) Very impressive collection.
