Just had a look at my copy of The Welsh Review, which is an A5 booklet, with 63 pages, Tolkien's poem is on 11 pages of A5 printed on both sides, I am struggling with how this can become a 120 page book.

VERY large text for the poem + related essays + some plates + other blurb got the English language component of the Serbian edition to that. It is really a stretch, though.

I'm looking forward to Tolkien's annotated weekly shopping list in 2018, with 150 pages of detailed commentary on the impact of soap powder on Tolkien's thinking.

Skinning through the details, I see three textual pieces that will be included in the book (besides the story itself):

1. Introduction by Verlyn Flieger
2. Prefatory note on the text by Christopher Tolkien
3. Tolkien’s “Corrigan Poems”

Amazon UK has it listed as a hardback for pre-order; in case there was still any debate about format:

I wonder if "Tolkien's Corrigan Poems" is simply a commentary by VF on various drafts of the Lay or if Tolkien wrote multiple poems that include reference to Corrigan (I'm not aware that he did)?

At the end of the day, it is a short poem, so the commentary giving context and explanation shouldn't really be a hundred pages long, unless intended to pad. Verbosity is not a virtue, and neither - necessarily - is squeezing in every draft.

I had an Amazon pre-order for the facsimile Hobbit that is being released on the 22nd September, but have cancelled it, as Speedyhen is cheaper with free UK delivery.

Has anyone pre-ordered at a cheaper price than £16.80, with free delivery?

Have any pictures of this item actually been posted?

I haven't seen any images (that aren't just recycled first edition pictures - someone assuming the facsimile will look identical I guess?).

Edit: Looks like Amazon.co.uk has an image (who knows if it is real though):

Hopefully that isn't real, as it would represent a hack job of scanning and cleaning...

I've a note off to HC for an update on the edition, will share when I hear back.
