I just got an updated shipping confirmation from Amazon.com (US) for my Hobbit Facsimile First Edition — next Wednesday! I had preordered it last March!

Will it be a First Edition of the Facsimile First Edition or will it be a Second?

Does anyone have more info?

The pub linked to is titled The Atlas of Tolkien's Middle Earth - is this essentially the same publication as The Atlas of Middle Earth (no "Tolkien's" in the title)? I've planned to eventually pick up a copy of TAoME and want to make sure I'm buying the correct thing. If it is an updated edition, I wonder why/how this is happening now, given that KWF has been gone for over a decade now.

Assuming this (the one linked to) is what I want, does anyone know if it is (or will be) available in hardcover? I lean toward hardcover, but then with a book such as this, I suppose largeness of "footprint" (cover dimensions) is more important to me.

Further odd circumstance: TAofTME (as linked above) says it is forthcoming (release date of Apr 20 2017), but when I search for it on Amazon's US site (I am in the US), even with the ISBN, it turns up a 1994 edition (with the word "Tolkien's" in the title, FYI). Any idea if this release date holds for the US as well?

I think it is paperback only and looks to be this edition with a different cover.

For Hardback, you either need the HM version (used) or Easton Press (new or used).

I heard from HarperCollins that it is just a reissue (no new content) for the Atlas edition due later this year. I agree with Trotter that it is probably paperback only.

Also likely UK only, I haven't heard any rumor that Houghton Mifflin is re-printing in the US.

I believe that the Houghton Mifflin hardcover of Atlas is the first edition only, and that the Easton press is the only hardcover of the revised edition.

There was a 1991 Revised release of Atlas as well. No jacket I think. ISBN: 0739422006. Here's an old listing for one:
