Indeed, I was about to say: dorothy_house is quite an experienced eBayer, I doubt this went for less than £200. Someone presumably made a decent offer (above £200) & it was accepted privately.

I was also negotiating... the only information I was given was that the offer they received was a "four-figure sum, hugely more than we anticipated".
That makes more sense, price-wise. Must admit, a few years back, I'd have killed for a great condition 1st/1st FoTR, and now I wouldn't be terribly fussed (though I would certainly buy one like that if it did go cheaply). For me, the fun is definitely in the chase, and the things that you can't easily acquire by throwing money at the problem. I still want a perfect condition unread 1st impression Pleasure in Reading Hobbit. And then I want to waft it under Trotter's nose :)
Quite rare (the Trinity Forum Leaf by Niggle), but the price seems to be more in "The Wonders of..."
