Hope that it might also be released on CD as an Audio book, it is a real pain to remove the DRM from Audible audiobooks so that I can listen to it on all my devices.

DRM is one of the great product evils of our time and something that should be outlawed. I too hope we see a CD release, I like to rip audio myself for my own OCD labeling and quality control.

So The Children of Hurin gets an audiobook, The Fall of Gondolin gets an audiobook, but Beren and Luthien - which came out before The Fall of Gondolin - doesn't?

I'm not super familiar with audiobook file formats: are the audio files not MP3?

From Wikipedia
Audible Audiobooks are distributed by Audible with the file extensions .aa and .aax. They contain data encoded with either the MP3 or ACELP codecs, but include a Digital Rights Management (DRM) system requiring an Audible username and password for playback of the files.

Ah, that's annoying. And odd since Amazon themselves distribute their music (MP3) DRM-free.
EDIT: Just read the Wiki detail. Didn't realise Apple had also dropped their DRM policy; Wiki doesn't state when this happened, but Bruce Willis should be happy! Makes out like Audible are sort of the last one standing with this still in place.

OpenAudible is a fantastic programme,

The Fall of Gondolin DRM free
