The illustrations should all be from the forthcoming Unfinished Tales illustrated edition. Lovely view of the Blue Wizards!

Neat!

I've seen that image before:

Good point! Here is the book page (not just the image link) http://www.tolkienbooks.net/php/details2.php?id=1297

I wonder if that piece will be in the new edition, or if it is a placeholder as all three are still painting for the forthcoming UT book...

Also I've been noticing this before: Why are there two??

One has ISBN 9780008387747, the other is 9780063022171.

Like....what??

One is the US edition, one the UK.

Ah that makes sense - sometimes when I see two listings for the same item, one with a product image, the other without, I worry about ordering the wrong one!

On the assumption the product image is the final one, then it can be assumed that image will also be used for the standard edition in hardback, and possibly appear as the frontispiece (fold-out or not) for the deluxe edition.

However, will it appear in the book and/or calendar, or just be used as the cover? The same thing happened with the images on the front and back of The Silmarillion 1998 illustrated edition (those images didn't actually appear in the book itself)
