Return of the King 1st Ed. 1st. Imp. vs 2nd. Imp. DJ

I apologize if this has been discussed before. So far, my internet searching skill has failed me so I have to resort to fellow collectors here for advice!

May I ask if there is a difference between Return of the King 1st Edition 1st Impression 2nd State Dust Jacket (one with reviews on rear-flap) VS Return of the King 1st Edition 2nd Impressoin Dust Jacket?

Also, may I ask if Return of the King 1st Edition 1st Impression 1st State Dust Jacket (without the review on the rear-flap) is valued noticeably more than Return of the King 1st Edition 1st Impression 2nd State Dust Jacket?

As always, thank you very much for the help!

If you look at this thread, you can see the spine of the 2nd Impression Dust Jacket, which has Second Impression on it, assume that the Impression is also mentioned on the flaps as well.

2nd Impression

Actually I believe the impression number wasn't mentioned on the flaps until it was removed from the spine. So the 5th impression would be the first that doesn't state it on the spine, but does so on the flap.

Here's a 2nd imp:

Thanks for the info Trotter and Berelach.

What you just showed us is quite monumental (at least for me!)
Does this mean both ROTK 1st Ed. 1st. Imp. 2nd State Dust Jacket is completely indistinguishable from ROTK 1st Ed. 2nd. Imp. Dust Jacket?

I know that an excess number of former 2nd State Dust Jacket was printed, which G. Allen used for the 2nd Impression copies. For additional 2nd Impression books, additional Dust Jackets must have been printed. I figured there would be clear different between those two, but if there isn't and the "impression" imprint was only written down starting 1st Ed. 5th Imp., does this mean that it is completely possible for an unscrupulous individual to use 4th Impression Dust Jacket on a 1st Ed. 1st. Imp. copy and claim that the jacket is merely a 2nd state and is a 1st impression one

The image of 2nd Impression Dust Jacket that you showed me is identical to the 1st Edition 1st Impression 2nd Dust Jacket... unless that is the excess copy of the 2nd state run that was used for 2nd impression.

Sorry my response was more directed towards Trotter's post. He responded to your question, I didn't mean to confuse things:

Ah hah! Trotter's image had it all right there. I kept looking at the rear-flap of the DJ, so it seems in my haste, I overlooked the "Second Impression" imprint right on the spine.

Thank you very much for the clarification! What an odd place to write impression number, by the way... unless this as a common practice back then?

Good question.

Here's where it was changed, 4th to 5th impressions.

This is incredible. It seems like you have copies of all the impressions in your collection and is readily available to take images and share with us.

Very informative indeed. Thank you!
