Findegil - I am finally going through the "2012" edition that I bought a few months ago, as it seems to match all of the textual points from The Tolkien Collector articles in #31 and #33.

Here is what the copyright page says, though: "This hardback edition 2015". And there is no mention of a 2012 edition.

My boards are red cloth, with red endpapers (Druss mentioned grey boards I think?)

In our copy of the 2012 hardback, the edition statement on the copyright page erroneously reads "This paperback edition". We would guess that in the tenth printing the word "paperback" was corrected to "hardback", and whoever did that changed "2012" to "2015" in the same line. If all of the features of the book are the same as for 2012, then it wouldn't be a new edition for 2015, only the tenth printing of the 2012 edition made in 2015. But it would be interesting to know if the ninth printing, say, still had "This paperback edition 2012".

I have the same copyright page except mine it's numbered 7, not 10; so I guess it answers the question :)

I have fully updated the 2012 column in the comparison chart for the various versions of FCL.

Thank goodness I was able to - unknowingly - avoid all this by getting a paperback edition! (the design style is HarperCollins' most recent one, if anyone's curious)
