"The tape marks will clean up"

No, dogfark, they won't clean up.

Also "These jackets were originally printed on recycled paper"

I have never seen any claim that these were specifically printed on recycled paper other than in this listing. The jacket paper does not appear to be any different than other early Hobbits, about which I have also never heard any specific claims of recyling.

I see he ended the listing early and then re-listed. I assume the strategy is to avoid people seeing it has come close to the end of the auction with no bids.

Also notice the 1946 Hobbit he has (the one that was up for sale for £2,000 for over a year from its previous owner) is now asking £10,000.. Crazy.

Right, I also think it won't show up in completed items so it doesn't seem like it's been relisted and you can't check that it's been relisted over and over again. Shameless really.

Putting this here because of the pictures of the review copy of Fellowship.

Not much of a rarity but a reasonable price for a decent looking copy (albeit with some minor issues), if anyone in the U.S. is looking for this edition.

What do you guys think about this? 1st Ed / 1st imp - too bad about the plate which has been painted on. Other than that it looks in good condition..

Have been on the lookout for a 1st / 1st for some time now but prices seem to keep going up so wondering about this one and views on quality / price ..

ebay

That is a shame about the painted plate...that detracts from the value a lot in my opinion. No DJ and slight fading. 8K seems like too much to me, but I'm by no means a Hobbit expert.
