Haha yes indeed. The wallet is the issue for me - otherwise these books would have been eye candy on MY shelf. ?

Your zipped mouth says it all - We all know perfectly well that it is a Silmarillion with some extra new art thrown in. My personal guess is that it will be one artist, not three, but happy to be proven wrong!

I think it'll be the illustrated edition by Ted Nasmith, in the format that matches this year's illustrated editions of The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings and Unfinished Tales.

It's an amazing illustration, but the Akallabeth is a relatively minor part of the text as a whole. Kind of wish they went with a little less flash and bang in favor of something more representative of the First Age. But hey, at least it's got ships.

As the previous hardback edition was having 45 illustrations. So we should have 4 or 5 brand new ones in this edition. Unless some would be removed an more new ones included...

But ya, I would have liked another cover, especially since the new Unfinished Tales has a similar cover in both theme and time period.

It’s a new cover for a hardback but not overall. Look to the HarperCollins 2008 paperback.
