I had forgotten about the Dutch version! I don't know how these things are counted - if a translation comes out before the original poem, does that count as the true first edition? It's not Tolkien's words, it's the translators after all... still, that's another poster I would love to get someday.

Here's another - signed by both Greg and Tim Hildebrandt. As I pulled this out to take a quick picture of it, I see I still have two extra copies - I bought a bunch when the Hildebrandt brothers were having a sale long ago. Anyone interested in one before I offer it to a wider audience?

This came in post yesterday and I'm excited to dive in. I talked with Aelfwine yesterday about it and he obviously thought it was a good book to have :)

Apparently got it for a pretty good price as well (the boards have a couple of knicks). 1st Printing.

Nice! Definitely a good book to have (and to read).  ?

Man, I've never seen that go for anything less than full price (or more). I'm still looking, though apparently not hard enough!

This is my first post ever .. anywhere. Hope I get it right!

I picked up this 1925 "Sir Gawain And The Green Knight" a while ago but am struggling to determine what printing it is. It doesn't quite correspond with advertised 1st printings (different title pages), and it's too early to be the 2nd printing, which I understand to be the 1930 corrected version. I'm quite intrigued - any thoughts?

It's a first printing.

If you scroll back to page 11 of this post you can see my second printing and look at the differences between yours and mine.

Personnally, I think it might be a first edition from 1925, but a later variant.
I have a 1st edition from 1925, and the date is printed on the title page, rather than on the copyright page.
One question : do you have an errata leaf between page vi and vii?

That's true, it may be one of the variants that may have been printed in the summer of '25?

Thanks for the thoughts. It doesn't have an errata leaf
