Lot 208

Estimate: £150 - £200
Hammer Price: £1,100

Tolkien (J.R.R.)The Fellowship of the Ring, first edition, folding map with small tear at fold, marginal yellow stain to a few pages in the middle, upper hinge starting to crack, original cloth, lower joint splitting and wear to head, fading and staining, wear to corners and extremities rubbed, 8vo, 1954.

I'm not sure why they have not stated the impression as it could be a 1st or 2nd Impression.

It is fairly common for professional dealers and auction houses to just say "first edition" when it is a 1st impression, and only call out the impression if it is not a 1st.

Still would not have been that hard for them to actually state the impression.

So no dust wrapper for that listing of FOTR? It doesn't say either way...

It would be a lot more if it had a dust wrapper.

I've had enough with auctions on eBay, would not like to bid on other sites as well

Updated with final hammer prices for the two lots.

As I expected, the Fellowship went for much more than estimated. I am surprised the lot of three later impressions didn't go for more though, honestly.
