Kay has published 14 novels and a book of poetry. He is a two-time winner of the Aurora Award and a multiple World Fantasy Award nominee, the latter of which he won for Ysabel. He also received the International Goliardos Prize for his contributions to literature of the fantastic. Before beginning his career as a novelist, Kay was retained by the Estate of J.R.R. Tolkien to assist in the editorial construction of The Silmarillion.

Since 2013, students from Pembroke College have organised an annual public lecture in honour of J.R.R. Tolkien. The lecture series promotes the study of fantasy literature, and advances our understanding of it, by inviting influential and talented speakers to share their ideas on the field.

The digital lecture will take place on Tuesday, May 11th, 6 PM BST (1 PM ET). There are limited spots available for the Zoom event, but it will also be simultaneously streamed on YouTube. There is a form to submit questions to Kay prior to the event, and there will be a Q&A session at the end of his talk.
