Really nice, but is it really worth the 100+ pounds? I'm still on the fence.

No one can answer that question for you but you. It's not a test.

Everyone's mileage will vary on that one. I wouldn't personally buy it at full RRP, but at £90ish, it doesn't seem too bad. I think it will look nice on the shelf. I imagine they will be available forever, so there is probably no need to jump in unless 1st print is important (but honestly, with these print numbers, I'm not sure 1st print it super important). The leaves from the book of Mazarbul are pretty neat.

Were this three volumes instead of one, I’d have been all over it. I may still jump at a sale price somewhere around $100.

I have a hard time justifying ownership of display editions in general, though. My budget isn’t unlimited, and there are other books I’d like to put that money towards.

I’m wondering if the cheaper edition (which I preordered) has the leaves from the Book of Mazarbul (I believe the initial listing for it mentioned them, but the current Amazon one doesn’t).

I think as a a collector, I have to accept I won't be reading 95% of the editions I have. How many copies of LoTR can one realistically read (and paperback Unwins from the 80s are my poison for reading)?

Looks like the leaves from the Book of Mazarbul are also printed inside the Deluxe edition as well as in a facsimile form. It also looks to be included in the Trade edition but you don't get the facsimiles.

Blackwell's website has been down for a few days, so unable to check on the status of these books, but the other sites seem to have them.

Updated current prices, very small movements in price, Wordery looks quite good at the moment as it is free worldwide delivery and does not appear to change the price depending upon location like Book Depository, but you may need to use a VPN to order.

Blackwells is back up.
