This is helpful to me. These seem to be good examples & variation of his signature and potentially useful provenance.

So are we sure that these signatures are genuine?

I think you have to make your own call on that. ‘Sure’ is difficult/dangerous claim for anyone to make based on photos.

I think better to ask if anyone sees any red flags.

Personally, I really don't like lot 46 at all (the Fellowship of the Ring with the scribbled out correction to the "J" initial.)

The others seem ok to me, and have additional handwriting that also seem good to me.

Yeah, 46 was the one that looked off to me.

I don't have a problem with any of the signatures.

Which is the fundamental problem of signatures. A real one on a bad day or with a poor pen might look off and a really good one might be fake. With the exception of the odd obvious shocker, the only useful thing is the provenance, and really that is usually just a plausibility judgement call. With Tolkien, handwritten letters seem the safest bet.

Our sentiments exactly from the video.

'Remarkable' Dorset book collection sold at auction

The first edition of TE Lawrence's memoirs The Seven Pillars of Wisdom which sold for £65,000

A "remarkable" collection of English literature has sold at auction for £346,000.

Books by TE Lawrence, JRR Tolkien, Thomas Hardy and Jane Austen, which belonged to a Dorset collector, went under the hammer in Dorchester on Friday.

A first edition of Lawrence's The Seven Pillars of Wisdom sold for £65,000.

Bids came from libraries, private collectors and dealers across the world, Duke's auction house said.

The 49 books were from the library of a "remarkable local collector" of English and, most particularly, Dorset literature, a spokeswoman added.
