For people interested in getting UK hardback HoMe editions, then getting them at auction like this is a good way to the moment. If you were to buy the Print on Demand editions at the normal price of £40, it would be more than the hammer price in the auction, though probably a closer price when HarperCollins have sales.

Too bad I missed this auction. Too much to do at work. I was interested in the 1st edition of Tree and leaf and the one of Lot 453 looks incredible!!

I think that was the best Tolkien lot in the auction, particularly if Farmer Giles is also a first edition.

Isn't £1125 a bit too much for a second edition of The Hobbit? Or is it actually normal these days?

It is normal at the moment, may not last, but expect to pay these prices if you want to get Hobbits at the moment.

I agree, especially prints from the 1950's with decent/good jackets.

I got a decent 1957 ninth imp for £600 last week, it was buy it now for £1250 but the dealer did an offer while I was searching and it was in my watch list so I saw it straight away. (I guess he bought it much cheaper a while back and wanted a quick sale)

£600 for a '57 (in good to fine condition) is a good deal at the moment.

I won the 7,5,3 set.

Couldn’t let that beauty pass up.
