[If anyone notices this new jacketed version could they post news of it in this thread?]

TL. It must be for sure that there are other books coming out this year... For example this year it was 70 years ago that Tolkien published "The Reeve’s Tale" ( Version Prepared for Summer Diversions, Oxford), maybe it would be great to have such a rare piece republished? Farmer Giles of Ham will become 60 this year and would be nice to have in a 'special' edition!

DB. To mark its 60th anniversary, Farmer Giles of Ham - the 50th Anniversary Edition with notes by Hammond & Scull - has been reprinted in hardback with a new jacket - only 500 copies have been printed

Well, the cover is in the link to Amazon. And the entry there is a usual Amazon hotchpotch. The cover says "60th anniversary edition", the review says 50th anniversary edition, the detailed data give the 1999 date of the 50th anniversary edition. The title is non-committal and has a typo (probably made by someone who could not read black letter).

I'm not doubting Beren, but Amazon's descriptions do not inspire me with any confidence in their accuracy.

Also, Amazon indicates the book as 'in stock', while at the same time HC website is totally silent about it. Not very likely.

I ordered this book from a 3rd Party Seller on Amazon (after emailing to check that the DJ showed '60th Annviversary').

Arrived today and all looks okay. DJ does indeed state '60th Anniversary' on the DJ cover.

So looks like the book is in print. Not sure why it has not appeared on the tolkien.co.uk website yet though.

I have just ordered a copy.

Out of interest does it state that it is limited to 500 copies in the book?

I don't have the book in front of me at the moment, but I didn't see anything like that when I had a quick look earlier.

At first glance, It just looks like a simple reprint of the 50th Anniversary Edition with a New Dustjacket Design.

From the Copyright Page, the Printing Number is 4. So basically a 4th Printing of the 1999 Edition with a New DJ stating 60th Anniversary.

I will have another look later.

Just compared the 60th Anniv. to the 1st Printing of the 50th Anniv.

Same Size. Same binding except that the Gilt Design on the Front Cover of the 50th Edition is not present on the 60th.

Also the Gilt Titles on the Spine (including JRRT Logo) are larger on the 60th.

Text appears identical other than copyright page. No idea if any errors were corrected. Same number of pages etc. No Mention of 500 copies. Just the number 4 on the numberline.

So basically, it looks like a straightforward reprint with a New DJ. From the inside flap of the DJ it states 'This special edition, first published in 1999.......'

That's interesting.

I wonder what HC will do when the 'limited' copies are sold.

Are they going to use the 50th Edition cover again with impression number 5 and above, or more likely sell the book with the new cover as impression 5?

I'm also assuming that the 'bizarre' reason that this book is not featured at all on tolkien.co.uk, is that Harper Collins have to take the site down for a week every time they make a change to it.
