We’ll have to wait for the book to actually be released to see what the binding is like….be wary of pre-ordering if that’s a concern.
I was surprised they didn’t wait for 2027 to publish this edition

They did indicate in March that this was coming out this year. Not a surprise.

My best guess would be that the illustration is depicting the trolls. The bald head in the lower part indicates that for me.
Will be a decent enough edition at 50% off. Then there will be a new ‘ultimate edition’ a couple of years later with one or two extra plates, ad nauseam, so I find it hard to get especially excited about these continuous incremental releases.
The US/WM edition is up on HarperCollins.com:

I guess we will get The Silmarillion next year then. I thought they would wait with The Hobbit until 2027, but money rules, and it’s easier to make people buy a matching set now for their Lotr 2024 deluxe set. I am personally looking forward to see this new slipcase next to my 2024 Lotr set. 😊

I think The Silmarillion would be a year after the Folio release, which I'm hoping is next year with Ted Nasmith's illustrations.
