Extremely sad. You don't own anything, just rent a license to use. I am more and more liking physical media. Are new audio CDs often announced on TolkienGuide? I guess it is not quite the same as physical books, though.

Here are the audio CDs that I managed to pick up.

Three sets: new Swedish translation (Erik Andersson, read by Jan Waldekranz), old Swedish translation (Åke Ohlmarks, read by Tomas Nordström) and the Andy Serkies ones. Also have Silmarillion with Serkies, but did not fit neatly into the first photo.




Will try to get a hold of the others such as Unfinished tales, Fall of Gondolin, Beren and Lúthien etc.

When looking at the audiobook on Downpur’s site, just make sure you toggle over to the physical CD option because they sell digital audiobooks as well.

I also have these CD’s produced by the Royal National Institute of the Blind (RNIB). The Hobbit is read by Gabriel Woolf and The Lord of the Rings by David Banks.

Abridged? Are they any good?

A question on the Unabridged Audiobook CD sets: It looks like the ones sold in the US market are in a cardboard box and the UK ones in a plastic case. Is that accurate? Want them in case I ever lose access to my Audible ones and think the plastic case would hold up better and look better on the shelves with my books.

I've been mostly receiving plastic cases for both UK and US sets, except the UK Andy Serkis Lord of the Rings which were in cardboard. I really haven't been able to identify a pattern as to when cardboard was used.

So either go by pictures (when not stock) or assume it could be either? Thanks for that information. I'd love to hear "if your order this version you will get plastic", but the truth is more useful. It also means there is no reason for me to try and get a UK version (often at higher shipping costs) since they are also sold as both. Again, thank you!
