I've received a copy of LOTR Deluxe 1st print without a Headband.
I know all other Deluxe books have a headband and I have confirmed by multiple sources that LOTR 2nd print and onward have a red/gold headband as well. Most people I contacted have the 2nd print LOTR since they got it with the 4-book Deluxe Set in 2007/08. However I've been unable to find someone with access to a 1st print copy.
Can someone with a LOTR Deluxe 1st print verify the presence/absence of a headband on their copy?
That's funny. Posted those photos straight from my phone. They orient correctly on the phone (original and viewing on the website), but on desktop they are rotated 90 degrees. Will have to figure out why it is doing that!
For the sake of completing the conversation here I want to offer a comparison between my book and Urulöké's:
- My copy has no headband or footband. - On my copy, the separation between the textblock and the spine is excessive. - On my copy, the copyright page is exactly the same as Urulöké's. - Color of cover board is exactly the same.
My conclusion is that I probably got a battered down copy OR a copy with manufacturing defects (can't post pics since I wont have access to it for a while). I would find it very unlikely that it is a fake, since the board is exactly of the same material as the other Deluxes I have (which were obtained from other sources).
