Spring 2025 has come and gone here under The Hill, and as the long Texas summer drags on, I thought I might share with y'all MOST of my Spring recent arrivals. A few items I had been looking for quite some time.

Bilbo Comes to the Hut of the Raft Elves.
Poster for the 1987 Bodleian Library Drawings for the Hobbit exhibition. Probably my favorite Tolkien watercolor.

Two Hildebrant Posters.
Signed by both Greg and Tim Hildebrant. The Fellowship and Dragon's Lair posters.

IMG_0332.jpeg

Tolkien Studies Vol. XIX Supplement.
Contains Tolkien's timeline and scheme for The Lord of the Rings.

IMG_0333.jpeg

The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings York Notes.
Published in the U.K. by Longman's in the early 1980's these are some of the earliest summary/notes volumes published on Tolkien. Long before spark notes existed.

HMCO U.S. The Lord of the Rings.
First Edition, impressions 12(FoTR), 9(TT), 9(RoTK). I am inching ever closer to having every impression of the U.S. LoTR first editions.

IMG_0335.jpeg

Viga Glums Saga. 1940 First Impression.
Volume one in the Oxford English Monograph series where Tolkien was one of the editors.

IMG_0336.jpeg

Sir Orfeo. Second Edition Review Copy.
2nd corrected edition of volume four in the Oxford English Monograph series where Tolkien was one of he editors, with publisher slip.

IMG_0337.jpeg

Gordon's The Seafarer.
Later published paperback with the lion cover art. Matches my copy of Maldon with the same cover art.

IMG_0338.jpeg

Hobbit 50th Anniversary Booklet.
Published by HMCO in 1988 to mark the 50th Anniversary of The Hobbit's publication in the U.S.

IMG_0339.jpeg

Flowers of the Field by Rev. C.A. Johns.
Published in 1909 by Routledge and Sons London. A detailed account of much of the flora of Britain. Tolkien had a copy in his library and used extensively in his much talked about references to plants and scenery in his Legendarium.

The Life of Joseph Wright.
Two volume ex-libary set on the life the teacher, writer, and poet Joseph Wright. He was one of Tolkien's mentors and there is a quote from him published here.

I have been fortunate enough to acquire numerous advance reading copies from a few different Tolkien publishers here in the U.S. Most notably Houghton Mifflin Harcourt(before they stopped publishing Tolkien), William Morrow, & Easton Press. Here are a few of them. I do have a few more, as some may know, but I did not want to share all just now.

Houghton Mifflin Harcourt (This LoTR volume was their last Tolkien edition)
