The Hobbit or There and Back Again, FIRST EDITION, FIRST IMPRESSION, George Allen & Unwin, 1937, frontispiece and 9 plates and illustrations (all but one full-page), advertisement leaf, map endpapers by the author printed in red and black, occasional finger-soiling, publisher's pictorial green cloth, top edges green, a little soiled and cocked, extremities worn with slight loss to cloth at foot of spine [Hammond A3(a)], 8vo. Provenance: David Bircumshaw, Christmas 1937, pencilled ownership inscription on fly-leaf.
