A set like this (but in better shape) sold for $750 USD on ebay not too long ago.

Condition is everything, mind. The current listing is not in particularly good condition, though I expect it would clean up somewhat.

I bought this set for £59.99 (on eBay) in September 2018. I considered that a good deal at the time & would probably have gone to double that depending on condition.

$750 is just lunacy.

Yep they come up now and then. £60 was a good deal for you. Anything much beyond £150 wouldn't get my money.

I might go for it. I like quite a lot the set presentation and the fact that there's also the Silmarillion attached.

If I bought this set, I'd probably toss all the books and replace them with better copies. What you are paying for here is the box -- the books are basically worthless (common/cheap and with faded jackets). Other than the fading, a bit of isopropyl alcohol can improve grubby jackets like these immensely, mind.

Here's one that wouldn't need the books tossed.

Thankfully I'm not in the market.

After a cursory search I can find no other "Tolkien Library" copies on the market at the moment besides this one on ebay and the auction set listed here.

$700 USD or thereabouts seems to be the going rate for these currently based on the small number that have come to market in decent shape.

The recent ebay sale for $750
David Miller had a set listed for $750 that sold earlier in the year in very good shape.
