I’m positively intrigued at this point: let’s see what types of products they’ll put out

No idea how I missed the actual announcement from Dark Horse but I did see the figures on social media. Caught up finally.

Now the big question is will DHC eventually end up doing comics set in Middle-earth? I once teased Randy Stradley (co-founder of DHC) about the need for them to do Tolkien comics and he trolled me back with a post about reading LOTR. Sadly he's retired now, but you have to wonder - it's the one media we are missing (besides the one, and great, adaption of the Hobbit).

I would love for a new ongoing series set within Middle-earth, and though I have in the last few years moved away from DHC and back to Marvel (returning to my 90s era), DHC is definitely one of the few companies that would do a great comic with the Tolkien license. Randy would be sadly missed, and I don't think he'd return just for this, but I'd pick a series up if they did one.

This just came across my feed.

They certainly look interesting, and I'd be tempted, but $50 a pop is just too much for my tastes I think.

I think this beautifully highlights the huge impact that nostalgia has on how we evaluate merchandise like this. Having grown up with the Jackson LotR movies, I find it difficult to relate to the older animated movie. But for other materials, I think I would be very vulnerable...
