The Hobbit or There and Back Again, first edition, signed by the author, original cloth, dust-jacket, "laminated" transparent cover stuck down on dust-jacket, lacks upper inside flap, laminated cover stuck down on front endpaper, 8vo, 1937. "Inscription reads "J.R.R. Tolkien. at 10 Adams Road [Cambridge] Oct 28: 1972." Inscribed while staying with Jack Bennett, a friend and former colleague from Oxford. J.A.W. "Jack" Bennett (1911-81) succeeded C.S. Lewis as Professor of Medieval & Renaissance English at Cambridge. est. £2000 – £3000 Sold for £12000
