Rob Gilson writes saying that he had last heard from Tolkien was the letter shown him by G.B. Smith in London and he hopes that both he and Edith were feeling better. Smith's battalion is about to deploy to France, he will be the first TCBSian to go to war.

Tolkien and the Great War mentions this letter and another a week later (26 November) as a source for 'Kortirion' textual history.
