Ragnar Furuskog writes to the British Council on the matter of his research and work into the phonology of manuscript B of the Katherine Group,MS Bodley 34[1] and manuscript A of Ancrene Riwle.MS CCCC 402[2] He hopes these will form the basis of his thesis toward a doctorate. He remarks that he has learned that Tolkien's Ancrene Wisse will soon be published. As it transpires, Tolkien's own edition would not be published until 1962. His earlier essay on the Ancrene Wisse and Hali Meiðhad were printed in 1929 in Essays and Studies by Members of the English Association[3] He asks if he could see the manuscript if it is not due in 1936.

Furuskog is concerned that his own work might clash with Tolkien's or other students and would like to know if Tolkien has nay objections to his direction of study.

The letter is forwarded to Tolkien on 1 November and he will consider the letter further.
