Looks a nice set and maybe get at a reasonable price. Worth a double check first impressions of this printing though

If anyone is trying to assemble a set (as I was) --I have a spare 1974 TT (this is the 8th --not sure why you'd want this impression! ) & a 1973 (7th) RK.

I must admit, with books like these that have no great significance, I don't tend to worry about the impression, it is more down to getting nice condition copies with that particular style of dust-jacket. I think I paid about a pound each. I paid a bit more to get the slipcased set with these wrappers.

I've never seen a copy of The Hobbit like this re-cased, have you?

Re-cased: A book that has been glued back into its covers after having been shaken loose.

I don't think I'd ever buy this for this price, but I guess someone here might be interested.

That is not a very nice looking recasing, in my opinion. I'd rather someone did a custom binding rather than gluing old fabric down on random green boards...

I agree.

Administrative note: Since this came up recently (with the signed Silmarillion) - please do not hesitate to post completed auctions here too, since some (many) of you may be loathe to share a gem you have found and don't want bidding competition on.

It is still interesting to see what has come up for auction and what it went for.

I will see if I have time to add some code to collect final value information automatically (similar to the ebay image grabbing) but I am working on another website that is taking all my time.

The clear plastic dustjacket (with Smaug printed on it) is quite hard to come by in this condition. Later editions dropped this and merged Smaug into the rest of the artwork.

This is a nice shape boardgame, and one of the scarcest Tolkien related titles from the early years.
