Lucky finds

Sometimes the fates smile upon you. Last week I was perusing the book section at one of the local thrift stores when I came upon a set of the trilogy in hardcover. It was a first impression of the Unwin Allen second edition in very good condition. The best part is I picked it up for about 5 pounds. Has anyone else ever been lucky enough to stumble on a similar situation?

Thanks Jlong! Just got the book today and it's a very nice copy! The seller threw in a nice 1/1 (unjacketed) Tree and Leaf just as a gift!

Well, I had some trouble finding this related thread, so why not link to it here (where I looked first):

Trotter's uncle's find (are double possessive forms used in English???):

I have had a chance to have a look at the book, very nice signature.

I also recently went to the same bookshop where he bought it, in case they had the matching signed Two Towers and ROTR for sale as well.

No luck

So are you buying it from your Uncle, or is he just going to keep it?

He is keeping it, he likes owning a signed Tolkien book

I have put this under lucky finds as it is for me

Am sure a lot of us have had that 'excited' feeling when you eventually track a book down and successfully buy it only then to have to wait for the post to come?

That happened to me last week. I finally got my hands on a deluxe 1987 Hobbit 135/500. Been after a copy for years without spending high £100's. Finally I was lucky enough to spot one in auction in Ireland.

Placed my bid and low and behold I won it at less than I would have gone up to. It arrived last week and what a lovely book it is. Any of you guys that have one will know exactly what I mean. It has now gone into my top 3 of Tolkien owned book.

The feel and smell of the leather is wonderful and is a real pleasure to own.

With lucky finds seemingly disappearing at moment this came as a bolt out of the blue. For anyone interested I know of another one which will be readvertised next month so keep eyes out if after this edition.

I don't have one. But if you're going to post details of where it will be available here, I don't think I'll bother!

Found this the other day in one of the local thrift shops while trolling for old books - a poster of Middle Earth illustrated by Pauline Baynes.
