The $5.00 price on the front flap of the Houghton Mifflin 1st Edition, 1st impression is larger & bolder than later impressions. The Dollar Sign ($) has 2 uprights & extends well above the top of the '5' The loop of the '5' extends well below the level of the zero's. Later jackets have the same style as early Two Towers, with the smaller characters, all the same size and the Dollar Sign has only one upright. Hope this helps, from The Tolkien Collector #22.
