First edition, first issue. 8vo, original black-stamped pictorial green cloth, top edge stained green; corners very slightly bumped, minor, negligible dust smudging at edges, minor spotting at edges, dust jacket (unclipped, corners very slightly rubbed and very slightly chipped, small chip measuring 12 x 4 mm at head of spine panel, small chip measuring 3 x 2 mm at head of joint of front panel). With frontispiece, 1 plate, 7 full-page illustrations, 1 illustration in text, map endpapers. One advertisement leaf. Negligible internal spotting, some light creasing to front free endpaper. First state of dust jacket with the misprint "Dodgeson" for "Dodgson," corrected by hand, on rear flap. Near Fine- / Near Fine copy.
