Letters from Father Christmas Deluxe Edition in planning stages

In the past few days, Amazon.co.uk has started showing that a new edition of Letters from Father Christmas is planned for release on September 19, 2019 - one year from now. The details are of course quite sparse and contradictory (the listing says it is both a paperback and a deluxe slipcased edition) so I asked HarperCollins if there was any news they could share. The response I received was
It’s true - FCL is joining our range of uniform deluxe editions.

We will have to wait for more information, but hopefully the art reproductions will get the deluxe treatment and we can enjoy adding this to our collections!

Info (subject to correction of course):
Letters from Father Christmas
Deluxe Slipcased edition
£60.00
192 pages
Planned release date: 19 Sept. 2019
ISBN-10: 0008327726
ISBN-13: 978-0008327729

(Thanks to Jeff Hawboldt for pointing me to the Amazon listing!)

Does anybody know where one should look online for the public domain songs?

Many thanks.

I'll send you a PM. The ones you will find online have numerous transcription errors.

Thank you Stu, that would be great. It is versions with errors that I keep coming across so a version without would be very useful/

I read Wayne & Christina’s article again (being in the Christmas mood!) and I wanted to ask if people here feel it might be a worthwhile effort to reach out to HC regarding this publication?

It seems to me that the entire “letters” content has never yet been properly published in a single volume. Maybe a request to HC to consider making this latest edition the definitive one would be worth a shot?

If this is anything other than the 2012 edition replicated (poorly) in the (poor) faux deluxe style I will be amazed. I adore the Father Christmas Letters but I won't be touching this book until I have read and seen reviews.

I doubt HC would be swayed in this matter to be honest. If they were partial to collector input then we would have extensive volumes of letters and related biographical publications by now.

To be fair to HC "extensive volumes of letters and related biographical publications" is not within their control as the publisher of Tolkien; they're working with what they have available to them. Criticism of the quality of the current deluxe incarnation is fair enough though.

I hasten to add, I personally think the deluxe editions are decent; but I agree, as others have said, that they're nothing particularly special in respect to historical book production standards.

They give collectors something to do/collect/talk about/complain about, while we're waiting for the next solid publication.

True. There are two different things at play here - the content that HC is permitted to publish and the manner in which they publish the content they are permitted to.

So... It looks like the answer might be “no, because HC doesn’t really care about collectors anyway” 😃 Ah well, it was worth a shot asking here anyway. I always feel there’s no loss in making my opinions heard; whether they are taken or not, at least I can say “I tried!”

Hope everyone has had a great New Year’s Day. All the best to y’all for 2019 😎

Amazon Australia has an image of the cover (not final!) on their Deluxe edition listing.

I assume this might be the cover for the hardcover edition, if at all. It looks pretty boring, and I’d have thought they’d want to go with a more interesting cover.

But they also botched up the deluxe HoME in this series, so who knows.
