Given that we don't know what the Dust Jacket actually looked like (other than Perhaps Wayne who has seen one), I'm trying to make something plausible just to protect the spine of the book from UV on the shelf. I can figure out the correct size easily enough (as I know how wide the flaps were from shadowing on the endpapers).

Any suggestions, help, etc. welcomed

[Edit: It looked nothing whatsoever like my first musings, attached here! ]

Thanks to everyone for commenting. I hadn't realised Wayne's information in the Bibliography was so comprehensive. With that and the images, this should be a breeze

I've been supplied scans of a 1928 jacket also with the addresses, but slightly different formatting (no uppercase, and italicised), so will go with that, as I have two 1928 examples that appear to be in that format. Educated guesswork.

Urulókë - Paris is the missing address, by the way.

Stu,

Have you contacted the Oxford University Press to see if they have an original copy with the dustjacket?

onlinequeries.uk@oup.com

No harm in trying?

Not a bad plan. Will get a first draft of this version out (as as easy enough to do) and then do so.

Will be more like this rough layout then, I think

Stu, how are you creating these? Using scans only or are you typesetting some of it?

Typesetting all of it. Scanning is too much of a faff to clean up (and I'd inevitably end up with mixed fonts for the bits I couldn't scan). Cleaner to have it all consistent.

Another thought was whether the copies at the British Library have jackets. That's something else for me to chase, probably.

Moved addresses to front-flap, per Hammond and the other 1928 examples (later books moved that to the rear, which is why I had it there).

Yeah, will probably scan for the front. Then will muck with the fonts on the other bits, particularly italic "k", upper "M", numbers, etc. Fairly easy stuff. The only problem is the adverts, and I'm just going to leave that entirely blank at this stage.
