The word to notice above, guys, is exact. "Exact same" 3-4 copies?! Nup, not in my collection.

Then you have cases of "exact" same copies of editions with varying price stickers (e.g lost tales I and II), priced and unpriced copies of HoME etc.

Ditto - joys of being a completist.

Unfortunately I can no longer attempt to be a completist since I am attracted to almost anything Tolkien. It's a long list. Quality is great but for some items it's the heart that went into the piece. For The Hobbit I have no 1e but the 1987 super deluxe is quality. The recent 1e facsimile with the 'glitter' cover, not so much. I wanted it anyway.

To sort of get back on track, I've noticed something else:

The upcoming paperback edition of The Fall of Gondolin (it's a gift for someone) has different dates. Does anyone know the REAL date??

I've seen listing for:

- April 30
- May 5
- May 26
- June 25

Much appreciated!

Perhaps because of the current situation, the retailers aren’t sure when they’ll have these new books printed. And probably the retailers are understaffed now, so warehousing and stocking may be partially happening, or not happening at all.

That’s weird, because other titles and books are still being made available during this mess. I understand there’s a global mess, but having the same date across the board (like other books do...) would be nice.

At the moment, I don't think publishers, printers or distributor's can give an accurate time on book releases.

The publication dates for the new illustrated editions of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, A Secret Vice paperback, and the anniversary illustrated editions of Unfinished Tales all have the same date (like, it doesn't change from HarperCollins site to Amazon to Blackwell's), as of now. That's the point I was trying to make.

Also, the Order of the Phoenix House Editions are all still listed as June 11.

Finally, on to non-book items, Final Fantasy VII Remake: Part I still kept its release date.

I honestly can't understand how you could possibly think accurate book release dates would be anyone's top priority at the moment.

You know, given a global pandemic, countrywide lockdowns in places where the title would be consumed, and likely where it would be printed and bound, a reduction to almost zero airfreight capacity, etc.

Literally who cares when this stuff is released? It will be released in due course, maybe on time, maybe not.
