At least it seems it will now be given the scrutiny that will allow potential donors to make an informed decision about whether donating is really right for them. That's a good outcome.

Tolkniety at least allowed my comment on his blog, the response is baffling and non-descript though and avoids any of the points raised.

I didn't think my comment was hostile.

"If the purpose is religious, then that is quite important to many non-religious people (realistically a lot of the LGBT community might care strongly, for instance)."

Well their celebrity endorsers include at least one very prominent member of that community, who doesn't seem to share that concern.

Well, that's true only on the basis that these endorsers, Ian McKellen first, were aware of the religious purposes and links of the people with this circle, which is far from being proved. Considering all the shadowy parts of this crowfunding, I tend to think that it's not the case.

Agreed, but if the project directors themselves harbor any ant-LGBTQ sentiments or agenda, they have a funny way of showing it.

The TS statement today pretty much sums up everything that's been said here.

I don't think anyone has said they have (LGBTQ was just an example off the top of my head). My point was simply that some communities would probably have pause when considering religious donations. I'm not LBGTQ and I would not give to an organisation aiming to hold religious retreats (though can understand that for others that would be a great use of funds). The key is to be upfront and give people the information to make an informed choice.

Not sure that the PR people have read the books

Absolutely - they just had more information to work on before coming to identical conclusions.
