It'll be interesting to see how fast these sell. 150 GBP is not cheap by any means. Most of us here will buy it, but I'm thinking of those who have a more casual Tolkien interest.

Hey Trotter, is this the Edition you have asked for?
This is great! Well done ??

I did suggest this one to HarperCollins, but I think they would have released this anyway to fit in with the TV series. I'm asking them about how many copies are being produced 3 or 5,000.

Trotter, may I ask what your suggestion was?

For the people who contributed to the 50th Anniversary Edition of the Lord of the Rings, an edition very similar to this, i.e. quarterbound red leather was produced. It was not commercially sold.

I suggested that they produce a 60th Anniversary edition, quarterbound in red leather, as I thought it would be very popular with collectors and also the Amazon TV series coming out at the same time is really good extra marketing for the book.

I think it will take a while. Its not cheap as you say and most don't want to spend that kind of money on a single book. Plus many have plumped for the recent illustrated editions and buying fatigue might be a factor. But a slower sell might suit many of us better.

From HC, they are judging Global Demand and think it will be 5,000 copies.

They are also releasing a Trade Edition, https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/0008471282

Wow, the standard edition is way sexier than the deluxe!

Even 3000 copies are a large print run for such a precious. And it seems they plan to sell some more, as this would be only a 1st print. Books of this price range normally sell a little bit slower. I'm curious whether it works out when the amazon show starts...

Thanks Trotter. The trade makes more sense for me so I'm really happy with that news. I'll only buy deluxe if I have to.

The timing of this is odd - 2024 is the 70th anniversary, so that would've been the perfect time.

Looks sweet, but seems as if they picked a random date out of a hat, considering how luxurious both of them look.

I don't really see how the release of a $1 billion TV series, called "The Lord of the Rings" can be construed as a random date picked from a hat.
