My copy does not have the printing error on that page.

Someone should compile some sort of list of all these printing errors...

Printing error on page 852. Random or does anyone else see the same? I think this picture shows the cheap, nasty texture of the paper quite well.

My copy does not have that production error Stu.

Pictured is the new German edition. Obviously some marked differences from the UK trade.

1. Bigger size
2. Ring verse goes all the way around the stain
3. There is one large loose map double sided
4. The Mazarbul pages are a fold out.
5. And oh ya...the slip case.

I have ordered mine and it is on the way, these images are courtesy of LanceFormation

Does anyone here have knowledge of the quality of this German translation? I'd like to boost my reading knowledge of German, and this would be a great way to do it!

The translation is the older one done by Margaret Carroux. This one is much more advocated by the readership because of a more ancient style. A more ‘modern’ translation comes from Wolfgang Krege.

Interestingly a second map in English is attached to this edition.

I'd say if you're looking to get the most out of the text then the set with the reader's companion is the way to go.

Thank you so much, Mr. Underhill. Much appreciated.

Always keep in mind: A German translation has 13% more text so we tend to do bigger books

Ithildin did tell me some days ago that the 2 beautiful klett-cotta deluxe editions from 2003 contain the Krege translation. I have a similiar project planned - reading the LOTR in german - as a means to freshen up my german and a new way to experience the LOTR. I think the more modern translation is the way to go at least for me not having a great mastery of the language to put it mildly. The 4-volume edition bound in red leather looks great and the artwork i have seen by Dietrich Ebert is very nice.
