Urul贸k毛鈥檚 recent acquisitions

2023/8/27 15:54:03 (GMT) Greenwich Mean Time, London, Dublin, Lisbon, Casablanca, Monrovia

A slow trickle of arrivals over the past few months. Nothing momentous. Some notes:

Hobbit is a 12th impression overall, 1961

Two Towers is 9th impression 1962

Biblioctopus catalog number 15 - has three pages of Tolkien listings. Date unknown.

Tree and Leaf is a 1st/1st - lots of foxing but cost almost nothing - bought without description or photos on the off chance I would get lucky.

Lay of Aotrou and Itroun - Easton Press, bought on their summer sale, it鈥檚 the only deluxe edition for this title as HarperCollins hasn鈥檛 released one.

It's been a while, and I am not putting everything here, but a few small mathoms I have enjoyed finding in recent weeks.

First (because this came in the mail today), an ex-library copy of the March-April 1938 Horn Book Magazine with full page advert for the forthcoming Hobbit. It was bound in library boards and had some markings (in addition to the folded corner on the Hobbit page) but has cleaned up very nicely. Just the holes from the sewn library binding are left, it was well bound.

Next, Barbara Remington's Map of Middle-earth. Needs to be flattened as it has been rolled for decades, and there is very minor loss in the corners from push-pins or staples. Will look awesome when framed!

John Howe's Swiss stamps came. I got the mini-sheets and the canceled postcards.

Two 1967 issues of Science Fiction Times - both have very interesting information about various Tolkien happenings at the time.

HobbitHunter Henk has a new book out doing a bibliographical overview of The Hobbit in Holland. My Dutch is rusty but it is well put together and will be very useful for collectors. https://www.hobbithunterbookshop.com/shop2/de-hobbit-in-nederland/

Speaking of signed books, Alan and Shawn sent me a copy of their new book Why We Love Middle-earth - I read portions of it in draft, and it is awesome to see it all together now. I definitely recommend this book.

Also from the kindness of friends, Ro盲c sent me a copy of this new publication from Sweden because I love Johan Egerkrans' art. It looks like a great collection of essays about Tolkien but my Swedish needs a lot of help. In any event, thank you so much!

Speaking of loving artist's work, I bought the new set of prints from Anke Eissmann (Tolkien's Landscapes) and they are really worth it. You can buy them individually if you prefer, as well. While I was at her shop, I noticed that she had some original Tolkien art available (which doesn't happen often!) so I bought two original sketches: "The Stone of Erech" and Tuor in Nevrast". 馃槏

Another recent arrival - a set of Lassi Lauri毛, the club publication of the Hungarian Tolkien Society (all available issues). They interviewed me for the latest issue (pp. 26-28) so I had to get a physical copy, and as long as I was getting one... They were super awesome and threw in a Hungarian Hobbit as well because there was room in the box. Thank you so much!

I heard from someone that the Bodleian Shop was selling pillow cases, so I put an order in for those and a few other things. 馃榿

Lastly a few recent releases - we will hopefully be talking about these in some videos soon.

I think you saw a post I put on fb showing the cushion cover, sorry 馃槅. But that set of notecards was also a new thing to me. All nice to have anyway.
