Real signature?

Already discussed here. At the end of the day, you have to make up your own mind. No one can tell you for sure whether it is real or not. Depends on how much you trust the story that goes with it.

Yes, as I said in the other thread it doesn’t look like any other Tolkien signature I’ve seen. Also it has zero provenance to prove its authenticity. The OP only had very vague details about where it came from. The temptation to fake Tolkien’s signature in an age where it can fetch many thousands of dollars is very high. Would be up to the buyer if they want to take the risk.

When in doubt (especially when it comes to larger sums like this) it’s probably wise to have rock solid provenance. Much less if the signature itself doesn’t compare most other known instances of Tolkien’s hand. Just my two cents.
