IMHO, it significantly diminishes the value of the book, the actors signatures from the films may add a small value to a movie-tie paperback but add nothing to an early edition.

What an absolute idiot, doing that to the book. You don't screw with original, important books by having actors write in them.

(plus Peter Woodthorpe was a far, far better Gollum than Serkis could ever be)

He's done this multiple times to multiple early editions. And as long as the controversy continues to generate money for him, I assume he'll keep doing it. Absolutely detest this.

Tolkien seems to either bring the best out of people or it brings out the dragon sickness. Too many booksellers seem to get infected with the latter (and Youtube/Tiktok just magnifies it)

It’s basically defacing an important historical artifact at this point. Such a shame that he keeps on doing it, but I guess money speaks louder… smh

I saw a post or video about this a while back and frankly decided to not post it here as it depressed me so much. As Stu says, Tolkien brings out the best or worse in people. I would not purchase this book if I was offered it at half price because I consider it defaced by nonsense.
