At least it isn't actually a rare book in this case. Still a shame, as is any pointless destruction of a book.

I must admit I consider actor sigs to be fairly worthless at the best of times. That said, I did just buy a crappy ex-lib HarperCollins hardback RotK with a John Rhys Davies signature and dedication in it. It was only 30 NZD (£13), though -- which is about that it was worth as bit of NZ nostalgia! I can probably flip it and make a profit of £7.
